One of my pieces was a pair of light skis (5kg, well below the allowed 20kg) that were apparently too long for normal baggage. It is just another way to extract an extra fee. Seat spacing on Jet Star is dismal. Thankfully it was a short flight"

Negativ: "Checking in with Japan Airlines was a serious hassle. I had my e-ticket but they kept asking me if I had already paid. The flight was apparently overbooked but than at the last minute, they gave me and my girlfriend seats separated from each other. I sat in the back, she sat in front. The tickets also had trouble scanning and kayak isn't a known agency."

Positiv: "The stewardess of the flight from LA to Osaka was awesome , I don't remember her exactly name , I think she is older then other crew members working that day on economy class . She was very professional , serving customer with the best she can. Always smiles. I feel good whenever I see her walks by, smile and very professional When the meal was serve but they only had one dish to choose instead of two ( I guess that day Chicken Masala dish was high on demand so there are only Japanese dish left) she said we are so sorry with a very sincere gesture , I chose Japanese food because I like Japanese food anyway , she politely thanks me for my choice and later bring a bag of small mix snack for me and said thank you for being flexible . Later on, when we getting off the airplane she even helped me to stroll my carry on out to the airplane because I was carry too many stuffs with me and my daughter being so tired of the long flight so I have to comforted my daughter . The stewardess saw that and helping me a hand . I wish every airlines has someone like this crew member . Thank you so much for the awesome service on Japan Airlines."

The hostesses were super friendly always offering some sort of beverage, the food was tasty (Be careful not to drop noodles on yourself like I did, those bad boys left a little mark). The video selection wasn't huge, but it was definitely adequate with good titles. Maybe I haven't noticed this before in other airlines, but they had new toothbrushes (packaged, not someone's forgotten toothbrush) in the restroom so the poor sap next to me didn't have to smell my stinky breath. Finally, they were quick with boarding! They were very punctual and we took off right when we got on, so nice!"
Negativ: "The seats were pretty adequately sized, however, I felt like I couldn't lay back too far or if the the person in front of me did, it made it really difficult to get the seats. Also, I thought it was my headphones, but it happened on a couple of flights with different headphones, but the audio only comes out of one earphone which was slightly annoying... Other than those things, JAL is super solid and I would recommend it to anyone considering them."

Positiv: "Japan Airline is a notch above the rest. The services was constant and consistent, the food was delicious and abundant, and the seats were comfortable. I was surprised at how often they would go up and down the aisles checking on passengers, picking up trash, and serving small food items. To top it off towards the end of the trip they put toothbrushes in the bathroom so you can leave fresh, awesome."

With all the pressure we were already experiencing and rushing to get to our connecting flight, here comes these crewmen in charge of scanning our bags we're all shouting at us to rush. The delay was not the passengers fault."

These are 14 and 12 hour overnight flights and seat wouldn't even recline, forget laying flat! On the outbound flight I didn't realize until we took off. The crew tried to fix it and couldn't but gave me one of the crew seats in the back of business class. Not great to be separated from my husband for most of the flight, but I could sleep and was otherwise comfortable. Returning Guangzhou to SF, had the same seat. Checked it as soon as I boarded and it didn't work, again! This time they got ground crew to fix it before take off. It worked most of the flight, but once I put it up after laying flat for 8 hours, it stopped working. Would not move from a straight upright position. Ridiculous! SO check to make sure your seats work before you take off!!"

I understand costs are important, but a steamed piece of bread and a foil packet of pickled vegetables is a bit of a stretch. The gate agents were less than helpful. I usually get an upgrade with my Delta status on partner airlines. Nope, not on this flight. I requested it and they said it is not possible on China Southern. I showed them my boarding pass from less than 48 hrs before on the same airline... they looked bewildered. Boarding was the usual "every man for himself". Zones? Classes? Awards members? Not in Shenzhen..."

Positiv: "I flew China Southern from Shenyang to Shanghai 4 days after rupturing my Achilles tendon. There service was fantastic, getting me wheelchairs through both airports, changing my seat to give my leg more room, giving me special attention during the flight to make sure I was comfortable. Their service for me was outstanding and caring in every way. 10+ from me. Thank you China Southern!"

On the plane, the flight crew attitude was professional and friendly. Food choices were great. Seats were larger and more leg room. Seatbelt fit well. I was a little dehydrated from my travel and the flight crew provided extra water on request. VERY SMOOTH landing."
Negativ: "Had several gate changes and information was very confusing. The last gate A05 had a small waiting area for too many passengers in the room. It was very loud and also very hot and humid in the room. Some passengers were getting impatient with the delays, gate changes, and lack of information. The China Southern airline staff in the room was doing their best based on the circumstances and they were very professional. Some Chinese / English passengers assisted the airport staff to translate for other non-Chinese speaking passengers, which I thought was wonderful. Announcing system was hard to understand over the noise in the room."

They were not clear, hesitate, call around. By the time they found out what is required, we already spent close to 90 minutes. If it is not due to flight delay, we left with very little time to clear the immigration, security screening and locate where the gate is."

Calling the agency Lastminute.com that had sold the ticket was not helpful either - they stated that they had no control over the ticket in the last 24h prior to departure and were unable to provide any assistance and no information how to activate the insurance purchased prior. Very dissatisfying experience. I take over 50 flights a year - worst assistance experience ever."

For a trip as long as going from Washington DC to BeiJing, they give you two dinners. Roominess - The seats are as cramped as any airline. However, the flight attendants don't give you are trouble when you want to get up and walk around and stay standing and talking with people of a long time. It has two isles so it feels pretty roomy to get up and walk around. Friendly staff- They make american flight staffs look very rude."
Negativ: "Leading up to the flight, customer service can only be contacted by email. Don't even try calling. They never pick up and won't get back to you. At least the flight is very good."

Positiv: "I booked this time China air for my parents and because of delayed flight we had very bad experience. Japanese boarding ticking staff were cooperative but seems they don’t have power"
Negativ: "They said they understand situation but they were afraid to solve but there were staff name Ms. Umeda Ms. Yasukawa and Ms. Ai were very nice trying to handling the situation but as we were very cooperative and understanding that not their fault. My parents are old my mother can’t walk probably and Blood pleasure patient. I ask for room in Beijing because of 18 hours delayed stay. But they failed for get Hotel. But Japanese staff were nice also crew. I would love to give 5/5 rating but honestly was bad experience only because of delayed flight and couldn’t get recovery."

Leider habe ich weder eine Erklärung noch eine Entschuldigung erhalten, sondern musste mein Gebäck neu einchecken und war alles in Allem über 30 Stunden unterwegs. Bisher ohne Stellungnahme einer Airline ...."

Negativ: "Ich wurde aus unerfindlichen Gründen auf einen früheren Flug umgebucht. Dieser hatte soviel Verspätung das er später als mein ursprünglicher Flug startete. Leider habe ich dadurch meinen Anschlußflug in Peking verpasst und wurde erneut umgebucht und habe dann über einen Umweg nach Zürich mein entgültiges Ziel erreicht."

Positiv: "Diesmal leider nichts!"
Negativ: "Der Service war unterstes Niveau. Angefangen vom Boarding, wo man jugendliche Traveller vor Familien mit kleinen Kindern das Fugzeug „stürmen“ ließ. So ging es leider weiter, ständige, sich wiederholende Durchsagen, viel zu warme Heizung, was mit „ Vorschrift bei Nachtflügen“ rechtfertigte."

Negativ: "Our flight was severely delayed 6 hours from Heathrow, and that is where this horror story began. No one bothered to tell us anything. When we arrived in Beijing for our connection to Bangkok, we had to search out people for help, there was absolutely no one forthcoming with explanations. We were travelling as 2 friends, I was booked on one flight and my travelling companion on another 15 hours later! This only got changed when we explained that we both only had hand luggage! To then board the flight and sit on the tarmac, engines running, simply waiting, no explanations again!! Will we ever fly China Airways again?? If we could exchange our return flight tickets to that of another Star Alliance member we would."

Positiv: "First off, the flight was cheap, really cheap, so for the price it was amazing."
Negativ: "Planes was a bit old so the entertainment system was a bit temperamental, poor image and the wife’s controller had taken a beating, so was hard to navigate and adjust settings."

During dinner service I asked for a second glass of wine with my meal but was refused as only 1 glass of beer or wine is allowed per passenger and flight, which I found very stingy as an airline and irritating from a customer care perspective."

Negativ: "Transfer in Beijing gave only one hour between flights. Impossible to make with China's cumbersome security procedure. Why did they give us those flights? Told staff on plane that we had a tough connection. No communication or procedure to help make transfer. Got to the gate BEFORE flight was to take off but plane was uncoupled from ramp and NO STAFF present. Went to another Air China gate and could not get any help. No supervisors to help. Five people missed the connection. Had to wait over EIGHT hours for next flight and was offered NOTHING by way of compensation. Does not appear that Air Chine wants to live up to the country's status in the world. Very poor service."

Positiv: "In general the flight was fine."
Negativ: "When I made my reservation the time to make my connecting flight in Beijing to Dulles (IAD) was 2 hr. Air China shortened the delay to 1 hr. We arrived on time but did not get off the plane until 12:00. They began boarding our connecting flight at 12:15. My husband needed the use of a wheelchair and with the help of the airport staff member we RAN through immigration (flew in from Hong Kong), had to go through security a second time, lost my iPad at security due to our rapid departure. We got to the flight at 12:30 and made it just in time to board. Our luggage could not be transferred in time and arrived the next day. This is just too difficult for people of any age to do...my husband and I are both in our 70s."

Negativ: "We were so delayed—gate number didn’t show up until after we were to take off—missed connecting flight to HNL. They cited ‘weather’ for our missed connection but had never said anything about this in Hong Kong when we were waiting hours for our plane to arrive. We were told to get temporary visas so they could put us in a hotel that night. We found our way to the meeting place only to be told there were no more rooms. The worker was completely rude and just ignored us. We were stranded all night on the departure side, waiting to check in in the morning to a flight we weren’t even sure we were rerouted on. We were given 200 yen (which is nothing) and had to go thru Tokyo, and wait another half day to catch a connection to HNL. The whole trip took 36 hours instead of 16. I’ll never fly this airline again. Something similar happened to me flying China Eastern. Honestly avoid all Chinese airlines, unless you want to spend a lot of time arguing with people and at least 2-3 times the travel time. (Not to be confused with Taiwanese airlines like China Airlines which are much more dependable and hace way nicer everything.)"

Negativ: "Das Essen war nicht so gut, keine persönliche Bordunterhaltung, kleine Sitzabstände und durchgesessene Sitze. Eine Tortur für Beine und Rücken."

Negativ: "The Air China ground staff was horrible. The return flight was late and so I missed my connection in Beijing. One of the flight attendants then blamed me for it because Kayak had booked the connecting flights too closely. I was then shuttled downstairs to ground crew who were terse, uncommunicative, and downright mean. I ended up in a hotel and can only hope this last part of my flight gets better. I’m still in beijing as I write this. And no wi fi on the domestic or international legs of the flight. Primitive."

We were hungry and no way of getting in touch with our family members because airport wifi does'nt work for us. We were ask to go here and there without explanation and the hotel given does'nt deserve to.be even a 1star..a better than nothing hotel. Tired, hungry and very exhausted . No words can describe our frustrations. We deserve a refund if not at least a compensation for that very bad service experienced on that flight of Air China 880."

Positiv: "The premium economy was a bit better, but still on a service level was very poor hospitality."
Negativ: "The online service was not user friendly and slow. Our upgrade was said at departure it would be for the full flight and was Not. The staff would not speak English and refused to serve any drinks or snacks as I thought it would be normal. Our luggage was lost and did not arrive at our final destination til 2 days later. On the flight home we were told to wait till our transfer to upgrade and that was denied and said we needed to do it prior. I am beyond disappointed and will never fly with Air China again and the only recourse that was given was from the nice people in Japan that explained this happens all the time and provided a voucher for less than 100 US dollars. I will advise anyone in the future not to fly this airline and I would like this to be investigated."

She said do not understand English and was on the phone looking for instruction how to help weelchair person. I assumed they told her go to check in , so she took me to Chech Airline point wait for bounding pass. The time of arrival to Beijin I was taking care on weelchair by Chinve's lady wery nervous, haotic on security point which cost difiiculties find my passport. and appone delivery me to the plain she ask for money! The last part of experience with ground weelchair services was in SF airport, all foriners workers, create wery unprofessional, nervous atmosphere and demand a money. Looks like AIRLINES OVERLOOK QUALITY OF THE SERVICE FOR THEY PASSANGERS BEFORE AND AFTER FLIGHT. SPEAKING OF FLIGHT. Positiv: "The staff, from airport to plane, were brilliant, the food was initially surprisingly nice, but by the time I'd been in transit long enough for the third meal, I just couldn't face it."
Negativ: "The Seats were OK and the legroom was pretty bgood for economy, but the extra headrests on the larger Heatthrow/beijing aircraft came in at about shoulderblade height and made finding a truly comfortable position impossible. Definitely one to look at the price step ups for better seats in future."

Wenn ein Flug in Richtung Deutschland geht, erwarte ich Ansagen auch in der Sprache des Ziellandes. Das hat nichts mit Verständigung zu tun, sondern ist vielmehr eine verbindende Geste"

Positiv: "Das Personal hat seinen Job ordentlich gemacht, nicht weniger, allerdings auch nicht mehr... Das Essen war auffallend gut, zwar einfach, aber guter Geschmack"
Negativ: "Der Flug war spät in DUS los und hat leider nichts aufgeholt; 1, 5 Std. verloren. Die Sitze waren sehr eng und die Maschine war sehr voll. Dementsprechend war es sehr laut...."

Negativ: "no wifi entire flight! stuff force you to turn off device after take off, even phone in airplane mode and self entertaining and playing cards not allowed. very bad english makes comunication hard and almost impossible order food or drink... they just bring watever and arguing about results in ( sorry no engliss). film selection horrible, old movies and 90% chinese. flight attendand skipped warm food after salad. only after reminding food was given! 0 requests after take off or during food if want any drink. you need literally flag down attendant to get your drink. if ordered tea, attendant asking you milk and sugar, you respond yes, you get then only tea no sugar or milk. after that nobody comes! accent were made to chinise pasdengers, more food or snaks were given or more comfort provided."

Positiv: "Crew Members are excellent, professional and polite at all times. No one shows their tiredness on long flights. The bathrooms were kept clean through out the flight."
Negativ: "Tight seats through out the flights. I am a regular Tea person. When I asked for tea they give the Chinese green/jasmine tea. I don't think they have regular Lipton or Irish Tea. I ordered Hindu meal, for a airplane food it was OK, it could be better. Only thing travelers need to know, Beijing customs/security has long lines and their security check is intense in the transit for the carry on luggage especially after a long tired flight. For this reason I am having a second thought about flying Air China via Beijing. Also, they have random check before boarding."

Negativ: "Little movie options"

Positiv: "Unedable food"
Negativ: "Booked beyond recognition flavourless"

Negativ: "Not a single snack in the plane!"

Positiv: "Complimentary Movies with headphones provided were a plus. Tenants on the first flight were nice and accommodated me being a vegetarian with out any frustration. But the transfer flight with AirChina was not too happy about it. Meals were provided. If you are not vegetarian or find out how to put your name on a special request sheet it should go smooth."
Negativ: "Seats were very narrow and seat by window wouldn't recline like other window seats. (No I was not by the exit.) I am a vegetarian. And asked for no meat. They didn't have a my name in a special request list. The crew member did know how I would be asked to be put on the list. I had a transfer flight with Air china to Dubai. The crew members in that flight were very rude even when I told them during boarding and a crew member came across with the special request sheet. Still no one could tell me how to put my name down as a special request to avoid any further confusion."

Positiv: "This leg of the trip was ok but, overall, my experience on Air China was deplorable. They overbooked a flight, booked us on a later flight, and charged us $500 for the new booking. Their argument was that they did not realize we already had our boarding passes when they rebooked us. What?! The entertainment is very dated and so it the aircraft. The only redeeming aspect of this flight was the food. It was really good. Oh... and there are no outlets on the plane, which is not typically on flights to Asia. They also lost half of the passengers luggage."
Negativ: "Everything"

Positiv: "Food was very good. Good variety and plenty of vegetables. Staff very courteous."
Negativ: "Restroom was Healy used. Should have been monitored more closely. Was not clean enough when I used had to clean myself before I could use. But I used to be a health inspector so maybe my standards are to high."

Positiv: "Getting off the plane"
Negativ: "Two hours on the deck at Astana waiting take off in steaming humidity and not a word from the staff. They looked blankly at me when I asked to know what was going on. And then they told a bald faced lie. They failed in the service of a pre-ordered mea. in general a pathetic excuse for an airline."

Positiv: "Nothing."
Negativ: "Our flight was delayed which caused us to miss our international connection. Flight attendants did not care, did not attempt to get us out faster, or put on a different flight. Asked for an announcement to be made on board or to be moved to seats closer to the front so we could get off the plane quicker, did not happen. Offboarded and sprinted across the airport for our international connection and was notified by gate attendents that the gate closed five minutes ago and that they could not let us on the plane. Meanwhile, the plane sat there for an additional 30 minutes while it fueled and waited for release from air traffic control. There were six travelers total stuck there in San Fran at that gate, all of us begging to be let on the plane to Beijing, the last one for over 24 hours. Zero compassion from staff at the the airline gate. They did not care about us and did not care about leaving their travelers stranded. Our total travel was Denver to Bangkok, 26 hours of travel including layovers in San Fran and Beijing. In San Fran (after missing the gate connection), we were rerouted us through Haiwaii and the customer service agent that did this reroute did not finish the reroute to our final destination. We got to Haiwaii and were stranded again, at the Air China service desk for four hours having to once again provide documentation of our initial travel plans to Bangkok, having them build a new itinerary to our final destination. Overall, 20 additional travel hours have been added to our itinerary, almost double our initial travel time. We have had to call and cancel pre-arranged bookings in Thailand as we are now missing two full days off our trip. I am absolutely disappointed and heart broken as I write this still stuck in the Beijing airport waiting another six hours to connect to Bangkok. My fiancé and I were traveling to Thailand to get married and have received no compassion from anyone at this airline to try and get us there. I am flat out disgusted by Air China."

Positiv: "Food was good. and more leg room. Also gave you a pillow and blanket. Of course the flight to China was a much larger airplane a Boeing 747, where flight to Sfo was a 737-800 and a smaller Air bus. All my flights made it to destination on time. Or close to it. You should plan on at least 1&1/2 hours between transfers. SFO was under staffed at security long lines, and empty desks. Beijing & Soul airports had smaller lines. The Visa free transit at Beijing worked well."
Negativ: "Long time through customs and security especially when transferring from one plane to another. We had carry on luggage but still had to go through baggage claim and exit before transferring to the next flight."

Negativ: "The air China flight attendants are some of the rudest people I have encountered. They were extremely unhelpful and one went so far as to sigh and roll her eyes at me. Our flight was also delayed for four hours with no explanation, while we all sat on the plane waiting. Finally they made us all get off of the plane issued us new tickets and then we got back on. The whole process was rediculous. The seat space was smaller than usual and the plane was very dirty. It was also the worst airplane food I have ever tasted. I would definitely recommend not flying air China. K"
