Negativ: "Check in and boarding was atrocious. We were told that we wouldn't be allowed to go to the gate if we didn't get through the check in but it wasn't our fault that it was taking so long. There weren't anywhere near enough staff and so by the time we managed to check in we had to go straight to the gate. Same thing when boarding. Took far too long and there was an inevitable delay with no apology. Plane ok. One toilet out of order so had to walk the length of the plane. Games no good without a handset and very few new movies."

My entertainment screen wasn’t working. After resetting, it took them an hour to inform me that I could move to another seat if I wanted to, as they couldn’t resolve the problem with the screen. The food lacked in flavour and the sausage served for breakfast was undercooked."

Positiv: "I was a bit hesitant to fly Ethiopian Air for such a long flight (Dublin to LAX) however it turned out to be the best leg of multi-segment trip (all other flights were Aer Lingus or Delta and Ethiopian Air was far superior to both of those carriers). Flight attendants were friendly, the physical space was comfortable and spacious, the food was plentiful and delicious. Movies offered were relatively new and the IFE worked well. This flight is a continuation from Addis Ababa to LAX so when we boraded in Dublin most people were already onboard. It was a bit difficult to find space in the overhead bins but with a little rearranging of smaller packages by other passengers, we were able to fit our carry-ons in the overhead bin near our seats."

Negativ: "At the Addis airport, it seems chaos reigns! My flight was never listed on any display to say what gate we departed from. A crowd of people boarding for two different planes just rushed the gate area. I’ve got no idea how everyone ended up on the right plane. My flight was never announced I had to keep going up to ask over and over. The bathrooms at the airport are unhygienic and the available food is abysmal. On the plane was better except that the only entertainment is over head screens that didn’t work my overnight flight was miserable as the lights were on the whole time and they repeatedly woke me up to eat throughout the flight. I’ll do what I can to avoid the Addis airport from now on."

This was not just so I could watch a movie but because the quality of the plane's public address system made it very difficult to listen to the announcements from the captain and the crew. Listening on earphones I was able to hear everything clearly. Why it had to take so long just to give me earphones I don't know."

They need instructions in the bathroom for how to use the toilet, how to keep it clean, how to dispose of trash, how to flush toilet paper, etc. If fly all over the world, but every time I fly from Africa it's the same mess, regardless of airline. Simple instructions would help - they cannot assume all of their clients have used flush toilets when over 80% of Africans do not have them."
