Boarding was straightforward in IST, but security was strict (everyone's passport, boarding pass, and Covid tests were checked and re-checked 3 times within about 40 ft by 3 different sets of TK employees), with a final carry-on bag check with bomb nitrates swab for every passenger. And that was before boarding passes were scanned to step onto the plane. I first flew Turkish Airlines in 2005 and was extremely impressed. (The strict security process for flying to the US was much the same then as now, when they flew from the old Istanbul airport.) I have flown TK several times since and seen improvement, but not at the rate of its competitors, especially in the region. However, for my last trip (with a long leg between IST and LAX) they were half the price of other flagship carriers. Food quality, quantity and variety have declined, although that may be due to Covid restrictions. The lavatories remained clean but at least one ran out of TP & all other paper supplies half way to LAX. A couple of passengers (in economy, with me) took to using the business class lavatories and got into a dispute (real shouting match) with the flight attendants about it. (The passengers were in the wrong and escalating with unreasonable demands, but one flight attendant let his temper get the better of him. I didn't count but it seemed that there were fewer flight attendants on duty, with one being a fully robed "hygiene officer".) They did take Covid seriously, and distributed hygiene kits with masks, wipes, etc. to every passenger. If transiting through Istanbul before a long flight leg, consider using the airport hotel (YotelAir) within the terminal for international transfers (behind security). Reserve a room, as it was booked out when I last flew through. Otherwise, there are few places to sit down or rest once through to the International Transfers area.

Negativ: "After missing our connecting flight in Istanbul on our Turkish Airlines flight on January 9th from LAX-Addis Ababa (due to a nearly 45 minute delayed flight), my sister and I had to spend 24 hours in Istanbul and still pay for a night in our 4 star hotel in Addis, despite the fact that we weren't there. So, in preparation for our flight back to LAX, I spent hours on the phone with a Turkish Airlines representative to ensure that we would not miss our connecting flight on the way back to LAX on January 29 (Jomo Kenyatta-IST-LAX). The TA representative spoke very little English and became incredibly frustrated with me when I expressed my concern about how closely scheduled our connecting flights in Istanbul were. The representative said she could "help us" by seating us at the back of the plane from Jomo Kenyatta-IST, as she was "mostly sure" that our plane would deboard from the back of the plane once we arrived in Istanbul and, in theory, we wouldn't have to wait behind all the other customers to exit. This was totally incorrect: our plane only deboarded from the front exit door and the seats she selected at the back would surely have caused us to miss our next flight were it not for the fact that the plane wasn't full and we arrived only a few minutes late. Still, by the time we got off the plane in IST, our connecting flight was already 15 minutes into boarding. We showed the TA attendants our boarding passes at the long security line, and at first they both said, "don't worry, it will be fine". I had to convince them to let us skip the line as we would clearly have missed our flight. Once we finally made it through security we ran through the ENTIRE Istanbul airport to get to our gate, as we could hear them calling the final boarding call for our flight to LAX. We literally ran as fast as we could for almost 20 minutes straight, with all of our bags, which ended up being over a mile, I would guess. When we got to our gate, we had to go through yet another security line - WHY??? Apparently there was a celebrity in front of us, and while we were sweating and nervous about missing our flight, the security agents were taking selfies with the celebrity. It was insulting and rude and totally unprofessional. The take away for me is that Turkish Airlines should NOT be allowed to sell flights to people that give them less than an hour to make international connecting, especially in an airport as large and disorganized as Istanbul, and especially when Turkish Airlines flights are often late or delayed. This was one of the most stressful flying experiences of my life."

We asked them to put us through another carrier to LAX for connecting flight they refused.Very very BAD. It was a big miss for us.. never again Delta/Virgin Australia.............."

We saw people with two big bags get on board at the start, and then staff made everyone at the back of the line check their bags. But there was plenty of bin space before take off. And we were seated in the last row which can't recline."

We were given blankets and pillows. The best thing was the ground staff getting rude after all passengers complaining. They were basically saying we should get stuffed since we were booked for a flight next day same day. This is shameful! Needless to say that I will not fly this airline again!"

Boarding und Deboarding völlig unkoordiniert. Keine klaren Ansagen der Crew.

Das Boarding ist bei Lufthansa auch nach zwei Jahren Corona immer noch eine Katastrophe. Keine Ansage der Gruppen, so das alle gleichzeitig zum Boarding rennen. Das gleiche beim Aussteigen. Volle Gänge keine Ansage über einen geregelten Ausstieg. Leider kümmert sich die Lufthansa offensichtlich wenig um die Gesundheit der Passagiere.

Lufthansa IT meltdown prevented online check-in. Even though the US has just now allowed tourist visits to the States to resume, and Lufthansa is booked solid, they staffed only one third of their check-in counters to sort out all the ESTA and vaccination paperwork-related issues. Arrived two hours pre-boarding, lines around the terminal. Needless to say, they had me wait until I missed the flight (all my paperwork was in order, and I didn't have checked luggage). Berlin Flughafen, Deutsche Bahn, Deutsche Lufthansa; it's sad to see what Germany has come to. Lufthansa has fallen far behind the industry benchmarks. Their inept IT, middling on-board product and inability to synch their systems with Star Alliance partners (I was on a United Codeshare) make them a poor choice for international travel. This trip will have been my last with them.

Positiv: "My previous flights with Lufthansa have been in business class, which is fabulous. However, on this occasion flew economy because I got an exceptionally cheap ticket. I was pleasantly surprised. Obviously the seat was narrower, but had plenty of legroom. The food in economy in Lufthansa is better than most airlines’ business class meals. The crew is very courteous and professional. You really can’t go wrong with this airline."

Aus nicht ersichtlichen Gründen wurden bereits zuvor Flüge von LH und EW nach MUC annulliert. Erst gegen 21 Uhr erfolgte die Snkündigung dass 21:45 die neue Abflugszeit wäre. Gestartet ist die Maschiene dann um 22:05 Uhr. Die Kommunikation war sehr schlecht, das Bodenpersonal schloss bis zuletzt keine Annulierung aus."

Negativ: "Moderate delays at each end—waiting for transfer passengers delayed our departure half an hour. We made up the time en route but then sat on the tarmac at LAX because the gate was occupied. I think my seat mates missed their connection. They broke the handle on my rollaboard (checked due to stingy cabin baggage allowance)."

Negativ: "Das Boarding lief total chaotisch ab, erst wurden wir zu Fuß über den halben Flughafen geleitet, am Gate mussten wir lange auf einen Bus warten und dieser fuhr dann wiederum über den halben Flughafen zurück bis ganz ans Ende wo das Flugzeug stand. Im Flugzeug war es bereits sehr voll, so dass wir nicht unbedingt freundlich darauf aufmerksam gemacht wurden, dass wir eventuell nicht unser gesamtes Handgepäck mitnehmen können. Schließlich fand sich doch noch ein Platz in den Staufächern der Business Class, mit dem Hinweis, da hätten wir aber nochmal Glück gehabt."
Positiv: "Es gab zwar eine kleine Verspätung aber diese und deren Ursache wurden am Gate angesagt. Nettes und effizient arbeitendes Bordpersonal und freundlich vorgetragene Begrüßung, Ansagen und Verabschiedung. Flug war ruhig und entspannt. Gerne wieder!"
Positiv: "Flug war über pünktlich, wenn auch die fehlende Parkposition in Frankfurt den Zeitgewinn wieder wett gemacht hat. Einstieg war problemlos. Crew sehr motiviert und mit Freude bei der Sache."

Negativ: "fragte man sich leider auf diesem Flug. Keine Monitore mit den Infos zum Flug (wo sind wir, wie lange dauert es noch, etc...) Kannte ich so noch nicht. Bordpersonal war sagen wir mal nicht unfreundlich, mehr aber auch nicht. Höflich, zuvorkommend und aufmerksam ist anders. Der Flug ging von Berlin. Es lag also auf der Hand, dass sehr viele Fluggäste deutsch als ihre Muttersprache haben. Das störte die Flugbegleiterin aber nicht. Sie sprach ein so schnelles und undeutliches Englisch, dass sie nicht bis gar nicht zu verstehen war."

Negativ: "Klar, die Flieger werden immer enger... aber für die Umwelt ist es schon besser, wenn dafür weniger Flieger starten also beklage ich mich auch nicht so sehr drüber. Am Besten wäre es, wenn es mehr Züge gäbe für solche kurze Strecken."
Positiv: "I had an episode of anxiety over very minor turbulence which I sometimes get and both ladies who happened to be on duty were very reassuring and sympathetic to me. I had my 6 year old daughter also on the plane who is not anxious at all, so I was able to speak to one of the staff in French so as not to transfer my anxiety to my daughter who doesn't understand French. This was great. Over half way through the flight they gave me some earphones and suggested I watch a movie. This helped so much."

Positiv: "What did I like? Not much. We kept hearing over the PA about how Air Canada had been voted Number One airline in North America in 2017 but I was blowed if I could work out why. I have travelled quite a bit both Stateside and overseas and can tell you that AC does not come up to the standard set by Qantas or Southwest here in the States."
Negativ: "It felt as if the seats were even closer together than on the flight out. It was tight! It was the second leg of a flight from Taiwan and having experienced the extraordinary politeness and courtesy of the Taiwanese it came as a rude shock when the hefty AC (female) attendant banged the back of my seat, exhorting us with a "Would you guys get your seat backs up straight for meal service". The tea was pretty grim too and I suspected it had been made in a coffee pot."
Positiv: "I liked the fact that they provided beverages and food."
Negativ: "I hated how there was NO entertainment. Honestly on a 12 + hour flight this was a bit ridiculous. No tv, or movies... no screen on the seat at all. Not even a big one for everyone to enjoy! It was horrible... The seats were so cramped and the staff seemed a bit unprofessional and sloppy looking. The food was pretty bad as well. I've had my fair share amount of flights and honestly this was probably the worse one i've gone on with the amount of hours it took to get to our destination. I wouldn't have mind too much if there was no entertainment on a 2 or 3 hour flight..."
Positiv: "Das Boarding und die Durchführung waren super. Das Personal sprach Französisch. Nicht alles wurde auf Englisch wiederholt. Getränke wurden NUR EIN MAL angeboten. Essen hat Geld gekostet - nicht gut. United Airlines hat zwar auch essen Gegen Geld angeboten, aber hat mindestens 3 Mal von sich auch Getränke angeboten. Also von sich aus."

Positiv: "A woman in Toronto at the customs area for air Canada helped us get seats when we didn't realize we were on standby. She was very kind and helpful!"
Positiv: "Late departure due to an incompetent airport crew (the guys who fuel the plane) . The pilot keep us well informed about the delay. Since we left Vancouver late, we arrived late and had to sit on the runway for 30 minutes until we could get a gate at LAX. Again the pilot keep us informed and apologized for the inconvenience, The staff was very friendly."

Negativ: "Late departures (about 30 minutes each way) with corresponding late arrivals. On the flight LAX to Vancouver due to late arrival of the plane, on the return flight supposedly because of a delay in loading luggage (the flight was fully boarded for 30+minutes before loading was completed). The late arrival in Los Angeles led to further delay as there was no available gate to accept us so we disembarked 50+minutes after the scheduled time."

Negativ: "Overall, this flight service from Montreal for Los Angeles (6 hrs flight) service was worse than the interconnection flight I have experienced in Europe (2 hrs flight). There is no snack provided on this journey and you have to pay for everything (snacks and even the headphones). On the European flights, the snack was provided multiple times for short duration of the flight."

Positiv: "This was the absolute worst experience of my life. Out flight from Calgary to LAX was on the complete other side of the airport than our connector to San Diego. After a delay we had a short amount of time to get to the next flight. We literally were told to just cross the parking lot. Well... that ended up being a 25 minute run across the airport to only have to go thru security again. After navigating construction and parking structures we got to our gate 10 minutes late and would not be let on the flight. There was zero communication, sympathy or help from the United Airlines staff. We were told it was not their problem because we came in through Air Canada- BUT we booked through United! All in all it was an absolute nightmare that ended in us renting a car at 12am and driving back to San Diego with zero compensation from United Airlines"
Negativ: "No communication between airlines! No customer service to fix their lack of planning and communication. Just terrible all around"

Negativ: "They got in late to lax. Made no apparent effort to get us on alternative airlines or flights. I was rebooked on a flight 24 hours out No help finding hotels, meals or even terminal. It was a codeshare with united but neither would united help in any way because it was booked through air Canada."

Negativ: "After making if through a very busy customs and security line i make it to my gate only to find out that they lost my bag and they can't let me on my flight. I have been waiting in line for 3 hours to know what they are going to do to fix it and i'm still waiting.... i have flown with them before and it was fine but this is just ridiculous."
Positiv: "waiting on the plane for hours after we arrived to LA wasn't to great. Also it was frustrating to watch the plane get delayed over and over again, the food wasn't too good, the seats felt like cardboard and it was too packed in the plane...but other then that, it was spectacular"

Negativ: "- was told to switch gates twice for the same flight (while lugging my stuff along with me) - both flights were late - flight tracker didn't work from LAX to Vancouver - just a note: on flight from Vancouver to LAX, passenger behind us was talking 5X louder then literally anyone else on the plane. I bought headphones just to drown out his life story."
Negativ: "Air Canada failed to transfer my bag from flight 1 to connecting flight 2. This not only happened to me but to other people traveling on the same connecting flight as well. My bag was delivered later then the promised time, it was also returned damaged. It is now almost one week since I have taken my flight and I am unable to process a claim because they have not updated my file via their Bag Tracer program. It is clear that they still have a lot of work to do to be considered a real commercial air line company"
Negativ: "Had to pay for seat assignments when reservation made or no seat reservations. Not true on all airlines. Delta let us pick seats for free when the reservation was made. Husband had wanted a window seat and ended up with a middle seat. No free snacks just drinks"
Negativ: "The port for the earphones didn't work 100% You had to jiggle it to get it to work"

Positiv: "Entertainment on this flight was comparatively better than the flight we took from LAX to Toronto...Snacks was also better on this flight than the LAX to Toronto flight which really confuses me as to why?"

Positiv: "Besides a french men close to us that doesnt know what is a deodorent , everything was fine for the travel : ontime, friendly staff, no problem at all. Always recommend air canada for its quality standard. Complimentary drinks ok"

Positiv: "The flight was pretty good. The flight attendants were very nice. The seats are pretty roomy and Im about 6'3. The seat backs have a nice screen and a usb port as well as a standard electrical plug."
Negativ: "Checking in was terrible there and back. On the way to vancouver we showed up 2 hours early but the computers went out about 20 minutes after we arrived and stayed off till after our flight. No apologies, no responsibilities taken. That day was part of our small vacation. We got put on standby for the next flight 7 hours later. My family layed around the terminal without 100% surety that we'd get the next flight. We did but they split us up. I switched seats with someone and we all sat in the very rear seat of the plane, which was hard on my long legs and just added to a terrible experience. Ruined a whole day of vacation. Coming back the check in was just rudeness. A stark difference from the flight itself."
Negativ: "my luggage and my baby's car seat was delayed. I arrived at 10 pm and my luggage and baby's car seat was missing. I was told they will deliverer it to me the next day, but I have not received my stuff now its been two days"
Positiv: "All was good as it was not a Rouge plane."
Negativ: "Needed a bandaid as got a paper cut but it took forever for the stewardess to get me one.Had to remind her again."

Negativ: "From LA to Toronto & Montreal back to LA, was a 4-6 hr flight where they don't feed you or give you blankets. When I asked why blankets are not available, the crew said, "because that's all what we'll be doing is handing out blanket." The crew should realize that providing comfort for their passengers is a huge part of their service they should provide. This was my first time flying with air canada and I was very disappointed. Air Canada will definitely not be on my top airlines to fly next time."

Negativ: "They boarded and the moment everyone was seated, de-borded to change planes, resulting in a 2 hour delay. The crew was inattentive taking and delivering drink orders, which took an astounding length of time after payment, about 1 hour."
