I got this Chinese transit visa just to transfer because of the airport layout and that part was also didn’t make sense. They didn’t accept my middle “Y” on the boarding pass and it was so much of hassle to argue and finally let me through. Will never fly again on Xiamen."
Positiv: "This leg was continuation of flight that began in Xiamen. Same plane and crew. 787 Dreamliner layout is efficient, generous legroom and recline is better than American carriers. Crew works as team, fast and courteous. Very helpful and professional, Water offered frequently, trash pick up kept cabin neat, bathrooms always clean. Passenger announcements are clear and crisp is English and Chinese."

We landed at 5am, the transfer services open at 6, then check in opens at 6:50, but we weren’t allowed to check in until 8am because our flight was at 10am. We basically stood in line without anyone giving clear instructions and waited at different line ups for 1 hour each. Horrible airplane, horrible airport. Never transferring here again."
Negativ: "I was very sick and contagious and asked for a single person hotel room for the night before a connecting flight. It was not accommodated. It would have cost extra 100-200 yuan. Then when we asked for the shuttle to the hotel, the security at the departures level meant we could not exit and be picked up. No one could arrange pick up at arrivals. Instead we paid for a taxi ourselves. Poor service and coordination, especially considering I could barely talk and just badly needed a rest."

Negativ: "In the fine print is the fact that the flight includes a stop in Shenzen. On the outbound flight this was a nightmare experience with Chinese immigration. Exhausted from a 14 hour flight, passengers had their passports taken away; were put through a bizarre 45 minute finger printing process using machines that did not work; and then left to wait for an hour or more with no information. The continuation flight was in another part of the airport - a very long walk; and it turned out not to be at the departing gate that was displayed on the monitors. We arrived at the indicated (wrong) gate with no guidance. Very nearly missed the continuation flight. Once in Xiamen, our arrival was late enough that the second floor of the airport was closed. There were no ATMs on the first floor; no way to get the Chinese cash needed to take a taxi to the airport. Fortunately a kind citizen agreed to exchange some cash, using mental calculations and sign language about the exchange rate."

Next flight out of Xiamen was 6pm, Nov 2. Xiamen ground staff was very helpful in booking me the option to fly China Southern to Guangzhou the night of Nov 1, stay for free in a hotel, and then take the 0835 morning China Southern flight from Guangzhou to Manila. It was difficult to identify the right people to speak with and get clear assistance and direction in both Xiamen and Guangzhou."

Positiv: "International carriers kick butt on US domestic carriers. As a A+ SWA traveler, I know my 787s like the back of my hand. Xiamen had a Business class section (small & unfortunately: untested by me). Economy was as expected but imagine getting a Bao (chicken) & packaged fruit, pastries, pickled cucumbers. Hey, beats a pack of peanuts. You could also get a white or red wine (didn't try them) - all for the price of admission. Take that UA, Delta, & AA! Why can't foreign carriers bring their game to the US routes and really give some competition!"

From customer service to departure everything went smoothly. Since the flight was brand new not a lot of people knew about they're great deal. I bought a one way ticket to xiamen because I will be working a school teacher. I didn't realized til later on that it's possible for someone with a z visa to receive an extra 23kg check in baggage for free. I contacted the customer service who replied within a day and everything was fixed. Now, I've been travelling a good amount to China and US, so far the food that are good is xiamen airlines. It's healthy, not greasy, and my stomach didn't hurt."

I have been disappointed with them too many times.... food suck, cramped leg space, and an overabundance of delayed and cancelled flights. Need improvement: it would be nice if the flight attendant don't assume every Asian is Chinese. Over and over the flight attendants would suggest food options, snacks, and drinks in chinese. I understand this won't be the first nor would it be the last that someone would mistaken me as a native Chinese speaker. Overall, the whole experience was amazing!"

Negativ: "I tried to cancel the flight one day prior - but impossible to reach any one at Air China despite phone calls to multiple Air China hotline numbers found on the Internet. Calling the agency that had sold the ticket was not helpful either - they stated that they had no control over the ticket in the last 24h prior to departure and were unable to provide any assistance and no information how to activate the insurance purchased prior. Very dissatisfying experience. I take over 50 flights a year - worst assistance experience ever."

Negativ: "The seats were very cramped for an international flight and half of the foot space was taken up by an installed box of sorts. The "foot rest" also dug into my upper shins the entire flight (I had it in the upright position, but I have long legs). The food was really bad, basically inedible. Not just on this flight but on all the Air China flights I've been on, and both food options are usually identical other than the option between fake chicken or fake beef or seafood. The flight is super structured (referring to my 13-hour flight), that you're not allowed to sleep when you want because they have such a regimented schedule of when to turn on/off the lights, etc. On multiple occasions the flight attendants have turned off my tv monitor while I'm in the middle of a movie just because it appeared I was sleeping. With my 1 hr layover in Beijing that ended up being less than 10 minutes due to a delay, I made the rush through security quick enough, but my bags did not and needed to be shipped to me a day later at my destination. Air China purposefully schedules flights with such short layovers, putting customers' travel at risk. Not a major issue, but the crew surprisingly also had pretty limited English on the Beijing-Washington DC flight. For connecting flights, I have no expectation of English language ability, because it doesn't involve travel to an English-speaking country. However, if you're flying to the US, you should expect to communicate in English well, at least one of the cabin crew."

The entertainment system was mediocre most of the movies were in different languages with english subtitles. I brought wine from duty free in Bangkok, but it was taken during connection by security in Beijing. Maximum volume that you can bring with you is 100ml. The options were to go out and have my wine checked in my carry-on or they will hold it for 30 days and I could come back and picked it up. What a scam, cause you can buy from the duty free in Beijing and bring it with you."
